They had two opening bands which were real cool as well. We didn't see all of the first one, but they were pretty cool and played some awesome reggae. The second opening band was The Expendables from California, and they played an insane mix of reggae and hard rock, it was nuts! I totally wanted to get one of their cd's, but we were pretty sure they were charging for them and I hadn't brought any money in with me. I totally rocked out to the opening band, they were way cool and their sound kicked so much ass. Before their second to last song they asked the crowd if we liked to smoke pot, and everyone (including the people I came with) whipped out joints and started toking up, it was mad crazy. It was so fun after that, everyone loosened way up and had more fun, and was feeling the band a lot more. Defintely got us more pumped up for Slightly Stoopid.
One of the songs the opening band played was a lot more punk, and it urged the crowd to start a mosh pit. I badly wanted to join, my friend's husband urged me to get in there. Finally I did, and it was great. I was the only girl in there, and all these guys looked at me incredulously like, "what is this crazy little girl doing in here?" but I really held my own. There were a few more mosh pits throughout the concert, like when Slightly Stoopid finally came out and played some of their more punk stuff, I was one of the first to start the pit. I got knocked down a few times but I jumped right back up and came up swinging, knocking people around. My 80-something pound friend even got in there too, which surpised me because she's so small. She had fun till she got knocked to the ground and kicked in the head repeatedly. She did lose her shoe though but it made it to the stage, and the band (it was Slightly Stoopid by this time) actually announced during the show that someone lost their shoe and she got to go get it at the end of the show and meet the band. At one point my shoe got untied in the pit and I got knocked the ground and there was a dogpile on me; that one sucked and hurt a lot. I could only manage to mosh for a few minutes at a time because I would get dizzy, dehydrated and disoriented, so I would have to kind of stand on the sidelines despite people trying to include me like, "you started it, we're getting you back in". I got separated from the people I came with pretty early on from moshing and that sucked, I was wandering through the crowd aimlessly after that all disoriented and dizzy looking for them; people were looking at me like I was nuts. I must have looked like I was going to pass out because I got a lot of concerned looks.
There was a few times when I just randomly stopped in the crowd and danced when Slightly started to play a good song and I had a bunch of guys trying to grind on me and then pretend like it wasn't their fault; like it was the crowdedness of the facility that made them do it. Yeah right, your dick all up on my ass is not the crowd's fault... I'm movin on now. I did have one particular guy that was notorious for it, but I let him do it because I wanted to dance and he was kinda tender about it, he was hugging me at the same time and he got me a water when I was on the verge of passing out after a random mosh pit excursion after we were dancing. But towards the end of the show he got pretty annoying because he was blatantly trying to feel me up and I was just trying to enjoy the show and watch the band without having to worry about diverting his hands or figure out a way to not have to kiss him (although I failed at that, I just suck at being mean. I feel like I can't do that to a guy... I need to learn how to be a bitch to guys) He was from Michigan and was all like, "I have to see you again, I gotta get your number" so I ended up giving him a bunk number, though I don't think I realized it at the time because I was so dehydrated and whatnot and my house phone and cell are freakishly similar I think I just intermixed them to form one messed up, incorrect number. Ooops. At least I won't have to deal with him.
Overall, it was an awesome, kick ass concert. I discovered the joys (albeit, a harsh joy that comes with several aches and pains that leave me home from school the following few days and craving painkillers) of moshpitting and want to go out and get in there more. I may have the chance, since there are Kittie and Rob Zombie concerts coming up in April. If you want to listen to some Slightly Stoopid, go here and hear some of their new cd.
